Fulbright Scholar Interview with Julia Murphy '18
What are you studying at Duke, and what other activities are you involved in at college?
I will be graduating from Duke with honors, majoring in Public Policy and minoring in Asian & Middle Eastern Studies and Environmental Science. I completed a thesis on the topic of carbon emissions trading in China, titled "Carbon Price Pass-Through in the Chinese Emissions Trading Scheme: Lessons from the Republic of Korea and the European Union." On-campus, I am president of the Duke Sexual Assault Prevention Team, a teaching assistant for the Public Policy department, and a member of the Duke Wilderness Club.
Where are you going to do your Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Fellowship?
I was granted a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Award in Taiwan. I will be teaching English at a primary school in Taiwan for the 2022-2023 school year. I am very excited to improve my Mandarin proficiency, explore the natural beauty of Taiwan, and eat as many dumplings as possible!
Is there anything else we should know about your Fulbright?
I would like to say a sincere thank you to the Breck Chinese Department for making this dream possible! I would not be moving to Taiwan next year if it were not for the amazing Chinese language program at Breck. Thank you for fostering in me a love of the Chinese language, I am sincerely grateful.
