2023 Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day Awards

2023 Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day Awards
2023 Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day Awards
Each year, the Breck Parents Association sponsors Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day to thank Breck's faculty and staff for everything they do to help our children. It's a wonderful day with the PA providing breakfast and delivering notes of appreciation to everyone at Breck.

We also celebrate Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day at our All-School Chapel. We gathered to honor our colleagues who have given 10, 20, and 30 years of service to Breck. This year's 10-year awards were presented to Madison Austad, Lee Dunn, Deb Mixon, Gretchen Scherer, and Kate Starns. Twenty-year awards were presented to Melita Anderson, Megan Lee, Leah Malec, and Stan Michaelis. We also recognized Annette Bruscino, Barbara Jacobs-Smith, and Elizabeth Powers-Dempsey for 30 years of service. Congratulations, everyone!

Our 2022–23 yearbook editors Ava J. '23 and Floria E. '23 then recognized English Department Chair Cynthia Lotze as the 2023 Mustang yearbook dedicatee.

Our community then awarded Science Department Chair Dr. Brian Trussell with the Jean Wigley award, named after the late grandmother of three Breck alumnae given to one faculty member each spring in recognition of excellence in teaching.

Next, we moved to recognize this year's Breck Faculty Chair Awards. These are an honorary recognition of excellence in teaching endowed by generous donors and held by teachers for a three-year term. Two Faculty Chair Awards are presented each year. This year, the Lee and Penny Anderson Family Foundation Faculty Chair was awarded to Third Grade Teacher Stacy Moore. The Carl and Eloise Pohlad Family Faculty Chair was awarded to Middle School Spanish Teacher Ashley Kieger

Our community had the honor of bestowing one of Breck's greatest and rarest distinctions this year: an addition to our elite group of Master Teachers. The honor of Master Teacher was given to Fourth Grade Teacher Kim Schafer

The final award of the morning was the Ernest Campbell Award. The award, which is voted by faculty and staff for one of their own, recognizes “self-giving love for Breck.” This year, the award was given to the Director of Community Life and Head Chaplain Alexis Kent

Congratulations to all of our honorees!

We've posted photos from today's Chapel on our Zenfolio gallery site.
