Imagine a semester where learning extends beyond the classroom, cultural immersion becomes a daily reality, and lifelong connections are forged with classmates from around the world. Breck School is excited to launch a transformative partnership with the American School of Madrid (ASM) in the Fall of 2025. This initiative will offer Breck sophomores the unique opportunity to experience the vibrant culture of Madrid, while simultaneously welcoming ASM students to Breck each fall for a semester abroad program.

This partnership is grounded in a shared commitment to academic excellence and a recognition of the vital importance of global citizenship. The American School of Madrid, founded in 1961, has a rich history of fostering an internationally diverse community of learners. Much like Breck, ASM values intellectual curiosity, personal growth, and a sense of responsibility to the wider world. This shared ethos has grounded the work to develop and launch this academic exchange program. "Global citizenship and international mindedness don't happen by chance," shared Ben Weinberg, ASM Head of School, "they are cultivated and grow best when we have the opportunity to live and work with people whose experiences, culture, and beliefs are different from our own."

Breck has long recognized the importance of learning beyond the classroom. From local connections fostered through Community Partnerships to domestic and international trips during May Program, this program marks an important step forward in Breck's commitment to fostering enduring connections across the globe. Taylor, Class of 2028, is one of the students who will spend the semester at Breck in Fall 2025; “I am incredibly excited to spend time studying in Madrid. I'm looking forward to meeting new classmates, experiencing different teaching styles, and immersing myself in life in Spain.” Breck and ASM are creating a pathway to produce confident learners who are prepared to navigate an increasingly complex world with compassion, understanding and respect.

Host families are vital for study abroad programs, offering a safe and supportive environment for students to immerse themselves in a new culture and are essential for a successful study abroad experience.
