Beyond the Campus: Leading the National Conversation

At Breck, we have found that the most profound learning happens at the intersection of academic excellence and a deep sense of equity. This unique positioning is the result of intentional collaboration between the Peter Clark and the Melrose Centers. By sharing our work at renowned conferences such as the National Association of Episcopal Schools, the ISACS Annual Conference, and the NAIS Annual THRIVE Conference, we do more than simply present our successes. We invite a global community of educators to see what is possible when a school coordinates its resources to support the whole child. We highlight the Peter Clark and Melrose Centers at national conferences to offer case studies that spark innovation in other institutions while enhancing our national presence as a premier destination for exceptional candidates.

We know that the strongest learning environments emerge when instruction and belonging work together. This belief reflects the power of an intentional partnership that brings our centers into closer alignment. Under the leadership of Sarah Flotten, Director of the Peter Clark Center, and lead researcher Dr. Julie Kallio, we have strengthened the connection between cognitive science and daily instruction. The addition of Dr. Chéleah Googe as Director of the Melrose Center has further integrated social belonging with our academic frameworks. This shift honors our Episcopal roots by recognizing the inherent dignity of every human being while modernizing how we fulfill our mission.

Beyond the conference stage, Breck School extends this work by hosting the Breck Institute: Leading for Social and Academic Belonging in April 2026. This immersive experience brings leadership teams to campus to engage directly with the Melrose and Peter Clark Centers in action. Participants see how instruction and belonging reinforce one another across divisions, not as theory but as daily practice. In turn, their questions and perspectives help us sharpen how we explain and refine our approach. As we support other schools in designing systems that fit their own contexts, we continue to strengthen our own, with a clear focus on what matters most: the experience of students at Breck.

As we look ahead through the lens of our Future Focus strategic plan, we are driven by the belief that good ideas are worth sharing. We have built exceptional systems through the Melrose and Peter Clark Centers, and taking this work to the national stage is a point of immense pride for our community. Highlighting our work with an international audience creates a cycle of continuous improvement that benefits our faculty and students. By positioning Breck as a thought leader in the global educational conversation, we solidify our reputation as a premier destination for students, faculty, and exceptional candidates seeking to contribute to a transformative learning community.
