Breck's STAMPEDE 3630 Robotics team had a great weekend at the Minneapolis regional FIRST Robotics competition at the University of Minnesota. While the team didn't place, they were awarded the Gracious Professionalism Award sponsored by Johnson & Johnson. After winning the 2017 Breck Spelling Bee, Diego Jennings '23 went on to compete in the Metro ECSU Regional Spelling Bee held at St. Catherine's University in St. Paul. Forty students from metro-area schools competed, with the winner moving on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. The Breck School Thaistangs are headed to Kohn Kaen, Thailand, to run a five-day English immersion camp called "Camp My Town" for 90 Thai students. The Breck group is led by Breck faculty members Evan Jones '86, Annalisa Tester '10, Sarah Flotten '85, and Frederique Schmidt (on sabbatical this year), with help from Breck alum Madi Lommen '15. Congratulations to Breck sixth grader Noah Getnick, who has moved on to be one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2018 Minnesota National Geographic State Bee. Team Wolves from Lower School robotics had a solid showing at the FIRST LEGO League Robotics state competition February 24. The team participated in the four areas of competition, which included robot performance, robot design, core values, and a research project.
