Student-centered, faculty-focused, and community-minded.
Established in 2013, the Melrose Family Center for Leadership and Equity is the physical and programmatic embodiment of Breck School’s dedication to building 21st-century leadership capacities for all of our students at every educational and developmental level. The Melrose Center is a cross-divisional brave space where students, faculty, and staff explore crucial issues of equity, leadership, joy, and restoration, shaping the daily health of our school community. At the intersection of leadership and equity, we center initiatives and efforts in service to the whole Breck community. Through community programming, affinity groups, leadership curriculum, professional development, and more, we work to increase the capacity of all community members to engage in critical conversations about identity, equity, and social justice. In partnership with the Peter Clark Center for Mind, Brain, and Education, the Melrose Center supports students as they reflect on who they are as leaders, learners, and human beings. This work aligns with Breck’s mission, Episcopal identity, and our collective goal of graduating students who embody self-knowledge, intellectual curiosity, and social responsibility. As our work in the Melrose Center evolves, we will continue to look for ways to develop our students’ unique talents and capabilities and support the journey of future generations of leaders for years to come.
