Position Overview
Breck is seeking a dedicated leader and teacher for the role of Chaplain. This position includes both classroom and chapel responsibilities, integrating the spiritual and intellectual life of our school community. While Episcopal identity is key to Breck, “There are many paths to God'' is our guiding teaching. This is a philosophical concept from the Hindu tradition demonstrating that our approach is interfaith by design.
Our Chapel is truly the heart of our campus and all we do. It is where we gather not only for worship, but also for Commencement, senior speeches, concerts, and other notable school traditions. This person should be a confident worship leader and a thoughtful pastoral presence, while also offering engaging and academically rigorous classroom lessons. The learning, growth, and development of our students define the purpose of all we do as chaplains and designing worship and classroom experiences that are meaningful and relevant to young people of a variety of religious and identity backgrounds is key. Chaplains at Breck not only serve a major role in student life, but are also essential to alumni, parents, faculty, staff, school leadership, and the broader Twin Cities community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Chapel
Design and implement meaningful and relevant worship experiences for a multifaith community of students
Collaborate on the worship team to develop and implement a school-wide chapel theme, All School Chapels, aligned divisional chapels, and other worship and school life experiences
Steward and guide Episcopal identity understanding in the Breck community, aligning all experiences with the teaching, “There are many paths to God”
School Life Culture
Leverage chapel and other community spaces to create an environment that promotes respect, rapport, learning, and a deep regard for one another
Establish meaningful relationships with students, faculty, parents, school leaders, alumni, and community members at large
Reinforce and communicate clear and consistent expectations for learning, conduct, culture, and climate
Thoughtfully intervene and support when student or staff behaviors are harmful or unaligned with respecting the dignity of every human being
Provide pastoral care as appropriate and in partnership with divisional counselor
Lead and offer officiant services as needed for weddings, celebrations of life, blessings, bedside visits, and other community pastoral events

Position Overview
The Middle School years are essential for identity development: how one identifies with oneself as a student, artist, athlete, and community member. Breck recognizes the importance of students identifying with their natural surroundings as well and, as such, is starting an Outdoor Education program in the Middle School. From geocaching to archery to partnering with local organizations, the opportunities are robust, and Breck is looking for the right person to lead the work. We are seeking an experienced outdoor educator to be the face of the school’s outdoor program, which begins in fifth grade. The Lead Outdoor Educator will work collaboratively with teachers and administrators to create learning experiences that are thoughtfully sequenced and developmentally appropriate for each grade level. This new comprehensive outdoor learning program includes teaching hands-on outdoor lessons daily, building and maintaining outdoor learning environments, and collaborating with school and community partners. In addition, this position will be a member of the Middle School Wellness Team consisting of Physical Education, Health and Project Adventure.

Inspire a community of environmentally literate citizens who demonstrate stewardship and an authentic passion for learning about and enjoying the natural world.
Bring expertise to co-create and lead the inaugural year of Breck’s Middle School outdoor education program.
Collaborate with grade-level teachers, Department Chair and Middle School Director to align the Pillars of the Middle School Wellness Block and in-classroom content.
Engage with our Community Partnership Director to connect Middle School students to outdoor experiences with meaningful and deep community engagement opportunities on and off-campus.
Use outdoor skills and varied interests to lead and guide students through their Middle School outdoor learning experience. Potential units of study may include: Archery, biking, camping, canoeing, fishing, hiking, orienteering and other outdoor activities.
Plan, organize, and lead outdoor education trips and teach in a variety of settings.
Be committed to advancing equity, inclusion and belonging through the outdoor learning lens.
Build relationships with community members and organizations to assist with obtaining resource needs for the program.

Position Overview
Grade-Level Deans will oversee the coherence and successful integration of all components of students’ lives at Breck, including course selection, program adjustment, and progress towards graduation. Grade-Level Deans are responsible for setting and maintaining culture within their respective graduating class. Rotating with students throughout their 4-year journey through the Upper School, the Deans will be ingrained in all aspects of student life and will strive to build meaningful relationships with students and families.
This individual works collaboratively as a part of the Upper School administration team to support students, parents/guardians, and faculty. Deans will help to foster a caring, positive, and engaging learning environment. Building a partnership with parents is an important part of the role. Deans collaborate with others to provide programming and support for the academic and social/emotional growth of all students. With an understanding of adolescent development, teaching and learning, the Dean shapes the personality of the class as a whole while also focusing on the individual development of every student.
Deans are expected to commit to 4 years to ensure coherence and consistency with their respective classes. There shall be an expected term of 4 years (grades 9-12) for grade level deans with opportunities to renew at the end of each 4-year term.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor student progress and development both academically and socially
Encourage student enthusiasm for, and sense of community in the School by generating student support for school activities and developing class programs
Organize and plan grade level retreat (each year of the 4-year term)
Oversee the overall discipline and climate of the class
Provide leadership in advisory programming and execution.
Communicate frequently with both faculty and parents/guardians about students’ experiences
Advise the Division Director on setting student policies and procedures in the division
In conjunction with the other deans and the Division Director, help construct the master academic schedule
Coordinate May program plans for relevant grade level
Collaborate with US Counselor, SST, and College Counseling in discussions of student support
In conjunction with school administration, interview and evaluate applicants for administrative and teaching positions
Represent the School frequently at school events
Teach two classes (or equivalent)
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in high school setting
Previous independent school administrative experience desired
