Position Overview
The Head Boys Hockey Coach is responsible for providing visionary leadership for the JV and Varsity Hockey Program. The Head Boys Hockey Coach is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the program, including recruiting within the school, oversight and management of the staff, and development of individual team members. The Head Boys Hockey Coach is required to abide by rules and regulations of; the NFHS, the MSHSL, and Breck School.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions, to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
- Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in football.
- Coordinate the development and promotion of the Boys Hockey Program across the school community.
- Ensure all hockey coaches work together toward a common goal within the Boys Hockey Program and provide unity across all levels and teams.
- Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate student’s athletic abilities initially and on an ongoing basis.
- Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
- Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times.
- Coordinate the development of a year round strength and conditioning program.
- Use the allotted days by the MSHSL in June and July to provide athletes the opportunity to do hockey specific training.
- Encourage and support multisport athletes within Breck School.
- Assist student athletes with college recruitment.
- Act as a team representative and promote the sport by communicating with news media and other organizations.
- Participate in special activities to include parent meetings, senior night, banquets, etc.
- Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletic or other appropriate administrator.
Education and/or Experience
- Three years of experience coaching hockey at the high school level (head coaching experience preferred).
- Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
- Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, governing organizations (MSHSL, etc.), opponents, staff, parents, and athletes.

Assistant Coach - FIRST Lego League (FLL) Challenge

Position Overview
The assistant FLL coach is responsible for coaching 4-5 teams of 4th thru 6th graders as they research the season problem and develop an innovative solution, prototype, and presentation. The coach also helps teams work on the FIRST Core Values and arranges outside experts to provide feedback. The season begins in the first week of school and typically continues through February depending on qualifying for different tournament levels. Coaches must be available for 2 to 4 weekend tournaments. Tournaments are typically on Saturday or Sunday.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise, guide, and provide feedback for students during practice
- Help teams design and implement a research project
- Design and lead core values activities to develop teamwork and communication
- Motivate students to engage in the learning process
- Familiarize self with FLL Challenge criteria
- Collaborate with other Breck FLL coaches
- Edit performance skit scripts
- Effectively resolve conflicts between team members
- Supervise and encourage students at tournaments
- Arrange visits or communication with experts in various fields
- Help teams design and implement a team identity
Education and/or Experience
- FIRST robotics at any level is valued (not required)
- Lego robot (EV3 or Spike Prime) experience helpful (not required)
- Assisting students with organization of large scale projects
- Organizing research projects
