Tell us about your journey after Breck?
I took a non-traditional path after graduation and followed my goal of becoming a Division I hockey player. I played two years of “Juniors” before going to Miami University and playing four years of college hockey. After graduation I spent the summer at Dartmouth and participated in the Tuck Business School Bridge Program to prepare me for the business world. I joined UBS Wealth Management in Wayzata shortly after and almost four years later that is where I am currently working as a Financial Advisor.

This year is not only your 10 year reunion, but also your 10 year anniversary of winning back to back Boys Hockey state titles. Can you share any memories from those title runs?
It is crazy that it has been 10 years. I have a lot of special memories from Breck and the state tournaments played a special role, but what meant the most to me was the time my teachers spent helping us become better students and people. A memory I will never forget from the state tournament was when Tyson Fulton ‘10 went on the ice with his skate guards on! We had a unique group of players and parents that made the experience very special. Everything was first class and a lot of fun! I look back on those memories and values we learned along the way and think about how they have helped me throughout my life.

After you graduated from Breck you have found many ways to stay connected to the community. You are a member of the alumni council, work with the annual fund, and some of our student athletes know you as “Coach Mooney.” Can you talk about what your continued engagement looks like and why you choose to spend your time in that way?
Breck gave a lot to me and I feel a responsibility to give back. I really enjoy being plugged in at the school with the Alumni Council and Annual fund. I also have special appreciation anytime I get to be at the rink! Coaching has been a true blessing to me. I want to help the kids become better hockey players, but more importantly I want them to learn the lessons that are going to help them become successful in life. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to win another State Tournament too! We have a great staff filled with alums and it's fun going to the rink every day.

Do you have any words of advice for our current seniors who are about to graduate, the rest of the student body, or the Breck community at large?
I have a heavy heart for the seniors right now. It is a tough way to end your journey at Breck, however it is really exciting that you are moving on to your next adventure. Enjoy the last few weeks with your classmates and teachers. Even though it is virtual you are still a community and that is special and should be celebrated. We have a special community at Breck and hope everyone can think of fond Breck memories while we are in this trying time. #MustangsUnite
