Advanced Math Research

Introduction to AMR
Advanced Math Research is one course in Breck’s Advanced Research program. This course offers engaged math students an opportunity to apply both statistical methods and mathematical modeling through research.
There are two pathways students can select. The first, is working with a nonprofit or community organization to further the client’s mission in the community. The second, is working with an organization, business or researcher to assist in analyzing existing data or a project of interest. Students collaborate with their organization to determine appropriate research and analytical methods, whether it be gathering data and analyzing it or designing a simulation or predictive model. They compile these findings into an impact report and presentation materials for their organizations/partners.
Students present their process and projects in a variety of ways throughout the course, including an impact report and a presentation at the school research symposium.

Apply to AMR
Department approval based on application, recommendations and interview. Minimum Course Prerequisite: Completion of Functions, Statistics and Trigonometry; Introduction to Statistics and Probability; or Honors Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Statistics. AP Statistics is strongly encouraged. (year-long course)
