Breck School - A Long-Range Plan for the Future

A Message to Our Neighbors and Families
At Breck, we believe that where you learn shapes how you learn. Our 55-acre campus in Golden Valley has been our home for nearly 50 years, serving as both a neighborhood anchor and a sanctuary for student growth. As we look to the next 25 years, we are embarking on a comprehensive site plan that honors our history while boldly reimagining our future.
Whether you are a neighbor in North Tyrol Hills or a parent watching your child grow from preschool to graduation, we are committed to a campus that reflects our shared values of excellence, sustainability, and community.

The Vision: Why Now?
While our mission remains timeless, our building and infrastructure — largely built in the last century — requires reinvestment. Breck is working to design to transform our campus into a space worthy of our extraordinary community. Key Priorities in the 25-year vision:
- The Hub: A central, P-12 gathering space for the Peter Clark Center, Melrose Center, and Center for Well-being.
- Middle School Modernization: Reimagining and relocating our academic spaces for grades 5-8 and relocating our earliest learners (Preschool-2) to a single-level Lower School.
- Athletic Excellence: Casting a future vision for the former American Legion site into a state-of-the-art Athletics Center with new fields and a pool.
- Infrastructure Reinvestment: Essential upgrades to HVAC, water management, and security infrastructure to ensure a sustainable future.
These priorities highlight signature elements of our 25-year vision for the site. This work, completed in phases and funded through a series of philanthropic capital campaigns, will create a transformational vision for the future of Breck's campus.
A Glimpse Into Our Future

PUD Update: Planning for Progress
To bring this vision to life, Breck has submitted a Final Planned Unit Development (PUD) Application to the City of Golden Valley. This application provides a clear pathway for construction while addressing critical environmental and safety needs:
- Environmental Stewardship: We are implementing innovative stormwater management and flood mitigation systems to protect Bassett Creek and our surrounding wetlands.
- Campus Safety & Traffic: The plan includes redesigned drive aisles to improve drop-off/pick-up efficiency and the installation of a traffic control gate at Natchez Avenue to enhance neighborhood safety.
-
Community Access: We are preserving green space and integrating accessible nature trails that will continue to serve as a public benefit for our neighbors.

April 2026 Update:
Breck is requesting an extension of the Preliminary PUD approval period to allow for continued coordination between the City, Breck leadership, and the Bassett Creek Watershed District, which is tentatively scheduled to be heard on June 2, 2026, at the Golden Valley City Council meeting. Since the Preliminary PUD approval was granted, Breck is continuing to further evaluate site design, stormwater management, and is also integrating an additional property acquisition along Lilac Drive into the comprehensive site plan. The additional time will allow Breck to seek approval of the Final PUD in Fall of 2026, with anticipated construction kick-off in Summer of 2027. Breck believes that the additional time will result in a stronger overall project, better integration with City and Watershed District objectives, and a more efficient construction process once work begins.
