Major: Engineering
Activities: Candidate's Weekend Interviewer; Improv Group, Franklin W. Olin Players
I currently attend the Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering in Needham, MA. At Olin, I have performed with the "Improv Group" and I am a student representative on the Information Technologies Working Group Committee. I am a member of the drama club FWOP (Franklin W. Olin Players), the Olin Stargazing Club, the Comic Book Club, and the Sci-Fi Club. Next semester, I will also be a Candidate's Weekend Interviewer, a position that helps the admissions staff decide which of the prospective students best fit with Olin. Most significantly, last semester I helped construct a "Mole," which is a self-burrowing device that can take measurements of soil. It was based on the NASA MUM (Mars Underground Mole) — currently on Mars and on the European PLUTO — based on the Beagle II before communications with that craft were lost. That kind of real-life application of cutting edge technology and design is really what Olin focuses on and it has helped me become a much better student who actually cares about the work he does.
The Breck teacher who most helped me get where I am now would probably be Tom Hegg. His wisdom and understanding of the world helped motivate me to want to learn more and to be the best person I could be. This helped me not only get into a school that I am convinced was a reach for me, but it also helped my focus in college align very well with Olin's Honor Code. Without his insight I'm sure I wouldn't be here.
