Safety & Security
Breck is committed to ensuring the safety and security of our students, families, faculty and staff. Denny Arons, Breck’s Director of Security, oversees the safety of the school campus, along with other security personnel. Denny is a former Golden Valley police sergeant where he served for 31 years. Denny has a Master’s of Public Administration from Hamline University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Minnesota. Denny also graduated from Quantico’s FBI National Academy for police leaders. He can be reached at email@example.com or by calling 612.810.9593. For after-hours security concerns, please call the security desk directly at 763.381.8406. The desk is staffed from Monday through Friday from 4:30 - 10:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
Security officers are located throughout the campus to assist all members of our community in times of need. Students or parents leaving campus after normal school hours may request a security officer to accompany them to their vehicle. Security officers are located at the Middle and Upper School entrances during school hours and at the Upper School entrance after hours.
Emergency and Crisis Plans
A comprehensive emergency and crisis plan is in place, with faculty, staff and students trained annually in implementing the plan. Tornado, fire, lockdown and other security drills are performed regularly throughout the school year.
As a school, Breck is required by the state of Minnesota to perform five fire and lockdown drills each year. These are unannounced but scheduled drills held throughout the year to give students continuous practice should there be an emergency event. Typically we practice the tornado drill in the spring during Severe Weather Awareness week. In addition to these drills, we practice an early dismissal drill and an emergency evacuation drill once a year. During an emergency evacuation drill, all students, faculty and staff are transported to the Anderson Ice Arena located at 4210 Olson Memorial Hwy, Golden Valley. Parents or designated emergency contacts will be allowed to pick up their students at that location.
Medical and Health Services
For medical and health services, the Health Center is staffed during the school day with a Licensed School Nurse and a Health Care Assistant. Additionally, an Athletic Trainer is available for athletes in the afternoon and attends some sporting events. A number of faculty and staff members are trained in first aid and CPR, and AED defibrillators are placed throughout the building.
Parents and emergency contacts will receive emergency updates from Breck through text, voice, and email messages. Families designate emergency contacts at the beginning of each school year and tests of the system are completed in the first few weeks of school each year. If your emergency contacts change, please contact Nellie Jans, School Receptionist, at 763.381.8100.
