Academic Support
Each division provides developmentally appropriate academic support/enrichment as needed. Resource teachers, a learning consultant, specialists and tutors are on staff. They work closely with the faculty to identify, address and monitor the academic needs and development of each student.
Tutorial services are offered for students in K-12 who encounter significant academic difficulties. Tutoring sessions are available to students for an additional fee based on the length of time of each session and take place before, during and after the school day. Referrals to community-based tutors and academic coaches are also available.
Guidance
The guidance team meets weekly to discuss student needs and learning issues. A plan may be developed to support academic progress, emotional well-being and/or behavior skills, identify assessment needs and assist parents in accessing community resources. Parents participate in this process along with school faculty.
Learning Consultant
The Lower School Learning Consultant provides support to classroom teachers in the areas of curriculum differentiation, learning styles and academic enrichment. Parents may contact the Learning Consultant with questions related to academic performance, study skills, and learning differences.
Resource Teachers
Language Arts and Math resource teachers provide individual and small group services to students who require additional academic support. Most often, this support is on a short-term basis. Math enrichment is provided for students who demonstrate exceptional mathematical ability. Science and technology resource teachers support curriculum development and instructional strategies in the classroom.
Tutoring
Tutoring is available at Breck for students who need concentrated academic support in reading, writing, spelling and math. Tutoring is a fee-based service and is coordinated through our Learning Consultant.
