Testing
The academic progress of students is regularly assessed using a variety of standardized and informal assessment. Breck administers an annual standardized, comprehensive testing program in grades 3-10. The accumulation of test results and faculty observations provide help in the assessment of a student’s performance and potential. Individual diagnostic tests may also be administered by the diagnostic testing coordinator to more precisely determine a student’s educational strengths and challenges.
Director of Testing
The director of testing coordinates school-wide standardized testing, including ERB and AP testing. The director then analyzes, summarizes and presents these test results to faculty and parents and provides consultation both to groups and individually as needed.
Diagnostic Testing Coordinator
The diagnostic testing coordinator is a school psychologist who provides individual diagnostic testing services for students school-wide who are experiencing learning and/or academic problems. The purpose of testing is to learn more about the student’s cognitive style, how this might be influencing his or her achievement and how best to meet student needs in the classroom. Referrals for testing may be made by administrators, teachers, parents, and, in the upper grades, by students. Students identified for diagnostic testing complete the referral process with the guidance team in their divisions before an assessment is initiated.
