  • Enhance or enrich skills in a relaxed environment
  • Personal learning plans
  • One-to-one instruction

Enhance or enrich math, reading, writing and language skills in the fun, active and relaxed environment of Summer Academy. Course sizes are limited to just seven students to allow for personalized learning plans and one-to-one instruction. Summer Academy courses are led by experienced teachers and are for students of all learning levels.

NEW! Reading and Writing Bridges (SA-404a / SA-504a / SA-505a / SA-505c)

Small-group guided instruction in reading, writing, and spelling for students who will benefit from extra practice to maintain and expand language arts skills. Activities will include reading books, writing and illustrating stories, and playing reading and spelling games. Breck teacher Marcy Wegner instructs the second grade course and Breck reading specialist Julia Kugland teaches third and fourth grades.

NEW! Math Bridges (grade 3: SA-404b / grade 4: SA-505b)

Building on Breck’s Math Expressions curriculum, you will have the opportunity to further develop your understanding of place value and number sense as well as practice math facts. Hands-on materials, strategies and games will be used. Taught by Breck math teacher Michael Oden.

NEW! Writing Comics (SA-104a)

Is your favorite author Jeff Kinney? Are you a "Wimpy Kid" yourself? Learn how to read and write comic-style novels. Spend two weeks with Tara Van De  Wynkel, Breck fourth-grade teacher, learning how to use Comic Life® to illustrate your very own hilarious stories. You will read samples of humorous  writings and learn how to take the picture in your head and put it onto the page.

NEW! Math Enrichment (SA-105b / SA-304a)

What did one math book say to another? Leave me alone. I have my own problems! Do you have a math joke or a passion for math that you would like to share with others? For two weeks, you will explore math concepts through various media (computers, books, nature, games, etc.). The major ideas of each day’s lessons are developed through investigations of rich applied problems. By the end of the camp, you will have a better ability to see math in the real world, build on your current math skills (while getting a glimpse of what is to come next year) and add to your math jokes collection! Taught by Breck math teacher Michael Oden.

NEW! Inspired Writing (SA-105c)

Calling all authors! Calling all authors! Are you looking for inspiration? One of the best ways to be inspired to write is through art. This class will focus on  creative writing using art as inspiration. You will write about paintings, music and multi-media art, and you’ll create a piece of art inspired by your writing.  Breck teacher Tara Van De Wynkel will help guide you through the process as you focus on word choice and building your writing vocabulary.

Afternoon options of Jr. Adventure Camp, for students entering 3rd and 4th grades, and afternoon Camp à la Carte classes for children entering 2nd through 4th grades, are available for Summer Academy students.
