Upper School

Welcome to the Upper School

I could not be more excited to welcome you to the Upper School this year! We have an amazing adventure ahead of us as we plan for the opening of a new school building in the fall of 2013. And this opening signifies a significant step in the life of the school — most notably, how to improve upon an already great place.

Our faculty have an average 23 years of experience teaching and they remain committed everyday to the intellectual lives of our students. We have state championship athletic teams, nationally awarded students in science, art, mathematics, and history; nationally recognized Mock Trial and Robotics teams and a nationally applauded program in student service and yet we remain unwilling to have those markers signify that we are satisfied we offer the best possible education.

Breck values the kind of introspection that asks more of its students than simply achieving excellence.

Breck values our students asking what are the best ways in which they can harness their tremendous talents for the best possible good.

This kind of thinking and teaching leads us to the bold decisions of building a new Upper School that will have centers for Servant Leadership, for resources in student learning, for state-of-the-art bio technology and robotics along with collaborative and communal spaces that foster the kind of community among students we pride ourselves on cultivating.

In this project we are being afforded one of the most important aspects of providing a superior education — the opportunity to dream. And construction not only invites dreaming, it demands it.

I encourage you to come visit our dreams, our vision and our school. We can’t wait to meet you.

Sincerely,

Melissa Soderberg
Upper School Director
