Members of our Community-Based Research in Mathematics have been selected to present at the National Service-Learning Conference held this year in St. Paul, March 11-13. Congratulations to the Advanced Science Research (ASR) class for their recent competition at the Twin Cities Regional Science Fair. Congratulations to Breck sixth grader Noah Getnick, who has moved on to be one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2018 Minnesota National Geographic State Bee. The contest will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018. This is the second level of the National Geographic Bee competition, which is now in its 30th year. Team Wolves from Lower School robotics had a solid showing at the FIRST LEGO League Robotics state competition February 24. The team participated in the four areas of competition, which included robot performance, robot design, core values, and a research project. The Breck "Blue" team competed in the Mock Trial State Tournament at the Federal Courthouse in Minneapolis on March 1-2. Team Blue was undefeated for the first day of competition, then lost to Nova Classical Academy in a close semifinal round on the second day. Margaret Johnston '18 won an All-State Attorney Award, and Gabe McHenry '19 won an All-State Witness Award. Five Breck seniors were named as finalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. Members of Breck’s Academic WorldQuest Team are state champions -- again! Congratulations to Cole Maxwell ’18, Darlene Radichel ’19, Sam Aronson ’18, and Jed Peterson ’19 who all won an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C., during the Minnesota Academic WorldQuest competition on February 7. The 2018 Scholastic Writing Awards were presented to eight Breck students. Seniors Zahria Brandon, Annabel Chosy, Erica Iliarski, Greer Lichtenberg, Melinda Samaratunga, Hyunsoo Song, Maxwell Vasicek, and Tré Warner received regional honors. Breck welcomed 10 guest teaching students today from Seoul National University of Education in South Korea. The teachers will shadow Breck teachers for two weeks, learn classroom techniques and share lessons from Korea.
