Family Community Outreach

Breck has a rich history of community service and the Family Community Outreach Committee is part of that history. The mission of the Family Community Outreach Committee is to create opportunities for families to participate in community service together! The Family Community Outreach Committee (FCOC) is a part of the Breck Parents Association and works in close collaboration with the Chaplains and the Community Service Coordinators at Breck School.

Breck service projects strive to be (1) relational — offer face-to-face contact; (2) mutual — be beneficial to both parties; and (3) encompass the community outside Breck.

Pancake BreckFest 2012

Hundreds celebrated Community Outreach at the 2nd Annual Pancake BreckFest! Family Community Outreach Committee extends many thanks to all who braved the snow this past Saturday and took part in Breck's 2nd Annual Pancake BreckFest. Over 500 guests celebrated Breck’s commitment to community outreach while enjoying a tasty breakfast menu of chocolate chip, blueberry, plain and gluten-free pancakes. Breck was in full bloom as talented student musicians entertained guests who strolled through a variety of outreach booths learning about Breck’s dedication to service learning. Thanks to all our volunteers and the Breck Community for your contributions to this special experience!

Special Olympics Poly Hockey State Tournament

Many thanks to all our Breck volunteers who volunteered on Saturday and Sunday, January 28 and 29 to make the Special Olympics Poly Hockey STATE Tournament a success! Over 250 Breck volunteers - students, parents, faculty, alumni - participated in celebration ceremonies, cheering, serving lunch, dinner and concessions, leading crafts and bingo, helping with set-up, operating time clocks, score keeping, clean-up, and more.

Special Olympics began in the 1960s at a small camp in Eunice Kennedy Shriver's backyard. Today it is an international program of year-round sports training and athletic competition has grown to encompass one million children and adults with mental retardation in more than 160 countries.

In 2004, Breck received an award from Special Olympics Minnesota as an outstanding non-profit for its support and sponsorship for the tournament.

H.O.M.E. Fall Leaf Raking for the Elderly

Saturday, November 5, from 9:00 AM to noon
Thanks to our 156 Breck volunteers — students, parents, alumni — who gave their time and energy raking the yards of 20 senior citizens in Golden Valley, St. Louis Park and New Hope. You filled 586 bags and, in doing so, eased the burden and warmed the hearts of senior citizens in need of help preparing for another brisk Minnesota winter! Great work . . . and teamwork!
