How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in Breck. What follows is meant to guide you through every step of the admissions process. While Breck accepts applicants at every grade level, our major entry points are pre-K, K, 5th, 6th, and 9th grade. For each of these grades we add between 10 and 30 new students every year. To begin your application, download the PDF or begin your online application above. Required forms are all available for download below. To schedule visits, conferences, or tours — or to ask questions — don’t hesitate to contact our admissions office at admissions@breckschool.org or 763.381.8200.

Timeline

While there is no one way to proceed through the admissions process, most families will complete the following before February 15, 2018.

1. Take a personal tour with a current parent.
Tours can be scheduled at 9:00am, 10:00am, and 1:30pm every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday from mid-September through mid-February. To schedule a tour, please call the admissions office at 763.381.8200.
Families of preschool and kindergarten applicants may also register for a special group tour and Q & A session with our Director of Admissions and Lower School Director. These tours run most Wednesday mornings from 9:30am-11:00am. You can register for one of these sessions here (spaces are limited).

2. Attend an open house, a curriculum information session, or both. You can register for those events here.
Open House: November 11, 2017: 9:00am-noon
Curriculum Information Session: December 5, 2017: 6:00pm-8:00pm
Open House: January 10, 2018: 5:30-8:00pm

3. Complete the admissions process based on the grade-specific guidelines below prior to February 1. All forms can be found below, and all scheduling can be completed by calling the admissions office at 763.381.8200.

 

Grade-Specific Requirements

All Students

For all students, application and fee is due by February 1, 2018. You may apply above online or download the PDF to begin your application.

All student visits and documents, including completed teacher recommendation and permission to release records must be completed by February 15.

 

Preschool/Kindergarten

Schedule parent conference and student testing.60 minutes
Conferences can be scheduled for preschool and kindergarter at 9:00am, 10:15am, 11:45am, 1:00ppm, and 2:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday.

Schedule a playgroup session.
60 minutes for preschool - 10:00am on January 6, January 27, and February 10, 2018.
90 minutes for kindergarten - 1:00pm-2:30pm most Mondays and Fridays in January and February.

Teacher recommendation form.
One recommendation from their current teacher.

Lower School (Grades 1-4)

Schedule student day visit and testing (testing will take place during the school day visit).
Grade 1 - student spends a half day in a kindergarten class.
Grades 2-4 - student spends a full day in a classroom at their current grade level.

Schedule parent conference, typically on the same day as the student visit. - 30 minutes
Conferences can be scheduled for Lower School at 8:15am, 2:30pm, or 3:15pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday.

Teacher recommendation form.
One recommendation from their current teacher.

Middle School (Grades 5-8)

Schedule student visit.
Grade 5: full day in grade 5.
Grades 6-8: full day in current grade level.

Schedule student and parent conference, typically on the same day as student visit. - 30 minutes
Conferences can be scheduled for Middle School at 8:15am, 2:30pm, and 3:15pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday. We are not able to have student visitors and conferences on Wednesdays.

Register for testing at Breck by calling 763.381.8200.
8:45am-noon on December 9, January 6, January 27, or February 24. Students can register for any one of these four dates.

Teacher recommendation form.
Two recommendations including one from a current math teacher and one from a current language arts teacher. For those students who have one primary teacher, please submit a second recommendation from another teacher or coach.

Current transcript.
Submit Permission to Release Student Records Form to current school.

Upper School (Grades 9-11)

Schedule student visit. 
Grade 9: full day in grade 9.
Grades 10-11: full day in current grade level.

Schedule student and parent conference, typically on same day as student visit. - 30 minutes
Conferences can be scheduled for Upper School at 8:15am, 2:30pm, and 3:15pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday. We are not able to have student visitors and conferences on Wednesdays.

Three recommendations including one from a current math teacher, one from a current English teacher, and one from a teacher or coach of your choice.

Decisions

Decision letters will be mailed on March 29, 2018. Applicants who do not complete the application process by the February 15 deadline will be considered and notified after the first round of decisions is complete.
