Marcia Jacobson
Making Everything Work: Middle School
Marcia Jacobson says her previous position at a large public high school in Minneapolis was “as different from Breck as it’s possible to be.” Since coming here, she’s decided it’s the “best place ever to work. People are easygoing and congenial and we have a lot of fun!”
She especially enjoys how collaborative her colleagues are. “Everybody wants to do what’s best for the kids, and it shows,” she observes. “I really feel like I’m part of a team – and I’ve had quite the opposite experience elsewhere.”
Before she worked in schools, Marcia worked in the hotel and hospitality industry, including a stint in sales and exhibitor services at the Minneapolis Convention Center. But at Breck she’s charmed by Middle School students. “Their conversations are so filled with energy and liveliness,” she laughs. “Everything is so urgent to them! It makes you feel so good when you can help.”
Middle School Director Sky Fauver says Marcia “has established a level of efficiency that keeps the office afloat. She pays close attention to many details that might otherwise be overlooked, and she’s a tireless worker who gives her all,” noting that Marcia is even willing to help with scoring and timing at Middle School athletic events.
Marcia’s pride and joy are her two children, and her face lights up when she talks about her daughter and son.
She likes walking, riding her bike and reading – and being able to discuss serious issues with her grown-up kids. “I love hearing their adult opinions about things,” she says. “It’s one of the most wonderful things in the world.”
