Faculty

Breck has 134 full and part-time faculty members, of whom more than two-thirds hold post-graduate degrees. Several have been nationally recognized for their teaching or publishing, including Lois Fruen, who has been honored as the country's outstanding high school science teacher, and Brad Kohl and Karen Pape, who have both been recognized with Presidential awards for excellence in the teaching of science and mathematics. Faculty development grants enable teachers to pursue their research interests or enhance their teaching skills. A few exceptional teachers — Jane Bartow, Tom Hegg, Jacob Miller, Carol Raths, Michael Moos, Karen Pape, Ruthanne Swenson and Alice Wright — are formally recognized as Master Teachers.

Faculty Chair Program Recognizes Excellence

In 2005-06, we established the Breck Faculty Chair Program to honor excellence in teaching. Thanks to the generosity of six families who have made gifts of one million dollars each to create the program, we will honor two teachers at Breck every year. Each recipient will hold a named Faculty Chair for a term of three academic years. Holders of a Breck Faculty Chair will be able to apply for funding to pursue a project of their choice.
