Every Student Cares

At Breck, we know that the best education is an education in discipline and generosity. Both inside and outside the classroom, Breck students, with the support of their teachers and families, learn to discover their role in the school community, our society and the world.

A Deep Sense of Social Responsibility

from an article by Sam Salas, headmaster emeritus

There is no question that the academic life of Breck will always occupy a central place. The many school activities will always be there to help students develop their individual talents and interests. But what about instilling in students a sense of social responsibility? It is this part of the mission that the service program addresses.

When school people talk about character education, I cannot help but think of service as the most effective way to learn character education. There is a direct correlation between community service and developing desired qualities. It is by meeting those in a different situation that we begin to wonder about our own lot. Why not me? What if I were there? Am I responsible for their situation? I can learn so much from others.

Breck's Chapel of the Holy Spirit

The spiritual and architectural focus of the campus is the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, which seats 1,300. Twice a week, Breck students gather here for simple worship services, which are times for deepening our relationships with God and celebrating community values. Read more about religion at Breck.

Senior Speeches

It is in the Chapel that each member of the senior class delivers a speech to the entire Upper School -- a 4-6 minute speech on a topic that is meaningful to all. This is a chance for students to share something significant that they have learned, or thought about, and it is a key milestone in each Breck student's career.
