Middle School Community Service

Caring and Making a Difference

In the Middle School, student participate in a variety of on- and off-campus service opportunities.

There is service to Breck, such as fifth graders' setting up cots for preschool naps. On quarterly off-campus service days, Middle School students and faculty travel to day care facilities and nursing homes or perform yard work for Twin Cities residents throught the H.O.M.E. (Household and Outside Maintenance for Elderly) program. In addition, many Middle Schoolers choose to participate in "I care and can make a difference" projects on an individual basis. These projects include purchasing holiday gifts for nursing home residents, contribuitng to food, toy and clothing drives, collecting school supplies and participating in a nationwide save-the-rainforest project.

BRAVE

As a response to the tsunami in southeast Asia in the winter of 2004-05, Breck Middle School students began a project called Breck Relief and Volunteer Efforts (BRAVE). Participants pledge to earn their own money (by doing household or neighborhood jobs, for example) to help those in need. In the fall of 2005, the Middle School has actively raised money and collected supplies for people affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
