Breck’s PCCTL Named an Academy School

Tuesday, December 20, 2016

The Peter Clark Center for Teaching & Learning has been asked to be an Academy School in partnership with the Center for Transformative Teaching & Learning (CTTL) at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland. Our collaboration with them will include participation in research examining the impact of mind, brain, and education training and attendance at their Science of Teaching and School Leadership Academy in Potomac. This year, we will be represented by Lower School instructor Elizabeth Powers-Dempsey, Upper School Physics instructor Brian Wright, and Director of the Peter Clark Center for Teaching & Learning Daisy Pellant.

The CTTL, led by Glenn Whitman, co-author of the book Neuroteach, gathers the latest in Mind, Brain, and Education Science and works to put that research into the hands of teachers. By doing so, teachers can better construct their classes to the benefit of every student. Every student and teacher at St. Andrew's benefits from the CTTL on a daily basis. St. Andrew’s teachers use research informed whole-class and personalized strategies to help each student become more confident, efficient, and independent learners throughout his or her learning journey. Among their many accomplishments, CTTL is the 2016 recipient of the International Mind, Brain, and Education Society Mission Award and a 2015 recipient of the Educational Leadership Grant from the E.E. Ford Foundation. To learn more about the CTTL, visit their website by clicking here.
