Alumni Reflections Claire Drysdale '14
Compared to some of my classmates, I wasn’t particularly service-oriented during high school, but Breck’s emphasis on giving back—from visiting weekly service sites to volunteering at school events—had a larger impact on me than I realized at the time. When deciding where to attend college, I chose to accept a scholarship with a strong service component, which required that I volunteer abroad the summer after my freshman year. I decided to work with an art therapy organization in Thailand, where I spent two of the most impactful and challenging months of my life. Looking back on my time at Breck, I learned many skills in the classroom, in the studio and on the athletic field, but most importantly, I learned the necessity of using those skills to improve the world.
