How to Apply for Aid

To ensure that the awarding of financial aid is determined in an equitable manner, Breck uses the services of School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS), which is under the aegis of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). Click here to access the SSS website. SSS will process a family's application, complete the analysis based on financial information provided by parents and then forward to Breck the "Report of Family Contribution" (RFC). The recommended amount is not binding on the school. To begin completion of your financial aid application for the coming academic year, please follow the steps as outlined below.

Whether you apply online or via the U.S. mail, you will find complete instructions on the SSS website. If you have questions, please call the Financial Aid Office at Breck (763-381-8204).

By February 1

Complete the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS), which you access via SSS. After completion, retain a copy for your files. In cases of separation or divorce, both parents must complete the process. (If one parent's rights have been voluntarily or legally terminated, please forward documentation to the financial aid office.)

By February 15

Please provide the following documents to Breck:

Note: Families not filing income tax forms must submit documentation to that effect to the school, and any alternative income-reporting forms.

When completing the PFS, you will be asked to select the school(s) to which you are applying. (The Breck code is 1804.)

IRS Form 4506-T

In addition to the above, all families must complete lines #1-4 and sign, BUT NOT DATE, the Internal Revenue Service Form 4506-T.  Return it to Breck’s Financial Aid Office together with the information requested above. In those instances where lack of clarity or confusion exists in the financial aid process, this form will be used to obtain a photocopy or transcript of the family’s Federal Income Tax Form 1040 directly from the IRS. Because the nature of this form is time-sensitive, the date of request is not entered unless or until this step is necessary.

If you have questions around the SSS process that require conversation directly with the SSS Customer Service Center, they welcome your call at 1-800-344-8328. The Customer Service Center is available Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM EST, and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM EST.
