Our Faculty & Staff

Breck has 145 full- and part-time faculty members, of whom more than two-thirds hold post-graduate degrees. Several have been nationally recognized for their teaching or publishing, including Lois Fruen, who has been honored as the country's outstanding high school science teacher and has also received a Presidential award for excellence in the teaching of science and mathematics, as have Brad Kohl and Karen Pape. Faculty development grants enable teachers to pursue their research interests or enhance their teaching skills. A few exceptional teachers — Carol Harrison, Tom Hegg, Jacob Miller, Karen Pape, Ruthanne Swenson and Alice Wright — are formally recognized as Master Teachers.

Faculty members are supported by a generous program of professional development, including sabbaticals, grants for summer study and travel, mid-year visits to other independent schools and reimbursement for coursework.
