2018-2019 PA Board Biographies
We're pleased to announce the following slate of returning members and nominees for the 2018-2019 Parents Association Board. This slate of candidates will be presented for a vote at the All-Parent Meeting on Wednesday, April 25, at 8:45 AM (Middle School Dining Room).
Tonya Hendrickson is the parent of two Breck students: Taylor ’16 and Katelyn ’19. She has been part of the Breck community since 2003, and has served as Grandparents’ Day Chair, Staff Appreciation Day Co-Chair, US and MS Division Chairs, Communications Coordinator for PA Board, Girl Scout Liaison, Girl Scout co-leader, and Classroom Coordinator. She also serves as Encore Chair.
Kathy Ganley moved to the Twin Cities in 2009, after twelve years in London, England. She has three children (Patrick '17, Joey '19, and Nell '21), and has served on the PA Board for the last four years as Upper School Division Co-Chair, President Elect and President. Kathy has also been a Tour Ambassador for several years, and a New Family Mentor. Additionally, she serves on the board of The Children's Theatre.
Amy Paster has been a Breck parent for 11 years. She is the parent of Luke '21, Mitch '22, Ethan '24, Danny '26, and Drew '28. Amy has served as a classroom ambassador for several years, served on the PA board for five years, been the Lower School Division chair for three years, a member of the Community Building Committee, a New Family Mentor for several years, created and chaired the New Family host program and she is currently the Admissions Ambassador Tour Coordinator.
COMMUNICATIONS / SECRETARY
Zoe Cunniff re-joined the Breck community in 2016 after moves to Rochester, MN, and Salt Lake City. Her youngest of four is Calista '28. In Salt Lake City her children attended Rowland Hall where she served as Home and School president, secretary, faculty appreciation co-chair, swim team liaison, and room rep. She is thrilled to be back in the Twin Cities where she enjoys the arts, yoga, and pro sports teams.
Farrell Danz is the parent of twins, Marcelle and Verona ’28. She has a BS from the University of Minnesota where she spent years researching the financial impact of divorce on Minnesota families. At Breck, she serves as a Classroom Ambassador and co-leads the 33-girl strong 1st grade Girl Scout troop. She enjoys creating spreadsheets in her spare time.
CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER CO-CHAIRS
Jonathan McDonagh is the parent of daughter Erin '24. Erin started Breck this year, so Jonathan is new to the Breck community. This is his first volunteer involvement with Breck. He has been on the Wayzata Yacht Club board since 2002 and was commodore 2011-2013. Jonathan is an avid sailboat racer.
Dan Maynard is the parent of two Breck students: Siena ‘30 and Braddock '31 (plus their little sister Zoe). Dan and his wife Jaclyn live in Saint Paul.
LOWER SCHOOL DIVISION CO-CHAIRS
Lesley Briese is the parent of two Breck students: Ava ‘28, Maggie ‘30 and preschooler Vivian '30. She has been part of the Breck community since 2014, and has served as a Classroom Coordinator, Community Outreach member, Annual Fund volunteer, Breck Ambassador and a New Family Mentor.
Gargi Bajpai is the parent of two Breck students: Shalini ‘28 and Nandini ‘31, and she a has a one-year-old daughter, Avni. Gargi has been a part of the Breck community since 2014. She has served as a Classroom Coordinator, a New Family Mentor, a Volunteer in the LS library, and participated as a Community Outreach Member.
MIDDLE SCHOOL DIVISION CO-CHAIRS
Anne Hofer is the mother of three boys: Drew '19, Tommy '22 and Mark. She became part of the Breck community in 2012. Her professional career has been in Financial Services with Capital One managing retail credit card programs. Additionally, she is a Board Member on the Eden Prairie Baseball Association. She plays in several competitive tennis leagues in her free time.
Nicole Dean is the parent of two Breck students: Anders '22 and Ava '24. She has been part of the Breck community since 2011. Nicole has previously served as a grade six parent representative.
UPPER SCHOOL DIVISION CO-CHAIRS
Elizabeth Wilcox is the parent to Madigan ‘20 and Reese ‘22. She has previously served the PA as a Lower School Division Chair and as a New Family Host Co-Chair.
Anna Lyon is the parent of Petra '23. She has been part of the Breck community since Petra started preschool in 2009, and has served as Annual Fund Chair and volunteer, a Classroom Coordinator, Breck Ambassador, and a New Family Mentor. In addition, she is a Past President of the Junior League of Minneapolis, has served on the YWCA of Minneapolis Board and remains on their Nominating Committee and is chairing the Perspectives Gala this fall.
Kim Walker is the parent of William '23 and Catherine '25. She has been part of the Breck community since 2009, and has served as Classroom Coordinator, Annual Fund volunteer, Breck Ambassador, New Family Mentor, New Family Host Co Chair, Co-Chair for Grade 4 Celebration and Co-Chair for Breck Applause.
FAMILY COMMUNITY OUTREACH CO-CHAIRS
Nicole Hogan came to Breck in the fall of 2014. She and her husband, Mike, live on Medicine Lake in Plymouth. They have two children: Ally '22 and Ty '24. Nicole served as MS Division Co-Chair during 2015-16 and 2017-17 school years.
Wayne Hawkins is married to Kari, and the father to Saylor ‘19 and Dayas ‘21. He has been a part of the Breck community since 2006, and has served as Co-Chair of the Learning Differences parent support group with a fellow Breck parent for the last several years. Wayne served on the PA Board as the Upper School Division Co-Chair. He also coaches both varsity football, gymnastics and helps out with track whenever he can at Breck. He also serves on the board of Literacy Matters. He is looking forward to serving on the PA Board again.
PARENT EDUCATION CO-CHAIRS
Susan Kelly was new to the Breck in fall 2016. She has two students at Breck: Claire '22 and Parker '25. Susan actively serves on youth and education related non-profit Boards including Big Brothers Big Sisters, the MN Humanities Center, and World Savvy.
Rob Wheaton is parent to son, Grier ’21. Rob has been a part of the Breck Community since 2007 and has served as a New-Family Mentor, Classroom Coordinator, Grade-Level Coordinator, International Student Host, Get In Gear Fun Run trainer, and repeat Leader of “Mindfulness Series for Breck Parents.”
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION CHAIRS
Anna Anderson is the parent of daughter Akilah ’27 and son Luvanda ’30. She has been part of the Breck community since 2014, and has served as a Classroom Ambassador and a New Family Mentor.
Kathleen Hustad is the parent of son Cole '31 and has been part of the Breck Community since 2016. Kathleen has served as a classroom volunteer. She values diversity and inclusion and is interested in hearing from families how to best serve Breck in her new role.
REUSE, REPLAY, RECYCLE CO-CHAIRS
Kimberly Bernstein is the parent of Breck student Alexandra '19. She joined the Breck community in September 2015. For the past two years she has served on the Parent Association Board as a Co-Chair for the Family Community Outreach Committee. In her role she helped to organize Breck’s Fall Leaf Raking events, Special Olympics MN Winter Games, Breck meal packing events at Sheridan Story, and monthly volunteer opportunities at PRISM Food Shelf. At her daughter's previous school she served as Volunteer Coordinator, Fundraising Chair, and was a member of Site Council. At the district level she also served on the Gifted and Talented Advisory Committee and the Superintendent's Parent Leadership Committee. She is very excited to be an active member of the Breck community.
Sarah Oltmann is the parent of son Will '26. Will started at Breck in the 2017-2018 school year, so he is new to the Breck community. This is her first volunteer involvement with Breck. Sarah served on the PTO board of her son's previous school.
NEW FAMILY HOST CO-CHAIRS
Julie Knudson is the parent of two Breck students: Ava '21 and Will '24. The Knudson's joined the Breck community in fall 2015. Previous to Breck, they spent four years in Wichita, KS where Ava and Will attended Wichita Collegiate School. While at Collegiate, Julie was actively involved in many areas of the Collegiate Association of Parents, headed the Collegiate Spirit Store, coached the 4th, 5th and 6th grade girls volleyball teams, and spent time in the classrooms.
Sandra Stone is the parent of two Breck students: Jacob ’26 and Justin ’26. Sandra is a Breck alum and 'lifer.' She has served on the Breck Alumni Council as well as serving as a Tour and Class Ambassadors.
MEALS THAT HEAL CHAIR
Karen Shaul joined the Breck community in 2011. Karen and her husband, Barry, have two children, Niya '24 and Barrett '26. Karen has been a Grade-Level Coordinator for three years and a New Family Mentor three times. She has served as the ReUse RePlay ReCycle Co-Chair for two and a half-years. She is currently serving as the Chair of the Meals That Heal program.
